We're Revealing Secrets!
Secrets of the Sea Marine Exploration Center and Aquarium Opening Spring 2013 at John's Pass Village, Madeira Beach
The $5 million Capital Campaign for Secrets of the Sea
Aquarium officials in early October had revealed the name and designs for the cutting-edge 12,500 sq. ft facility that will be a state-of-the-art marine attraction combining real-time scientific research, hands-on experiments and living exhibits. Since then, Bob Hilton, chair of the Capital Campaign Committee, and Co-chair Sheila McDevitt have been meeting weekly with committee volunteers to strategize and target sponsors for the exhibits and naming rights of specific and various locations in the facility.
"Our campaign is moving along with pledges and cash sponsors stepping up to create Secrets of the Sea,” said Hilton. He identified two groups, a family foundation on which he serves as a director and Progress Energy, that will sponsor the lobby’s moon jellyfish "jewel tank” and the” Energizing Research Mystery Station,” respectively. Other pledged exhibits (the displays) include Science on a Sphere (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and Planet Water (Southwest Florida Water Management District).
Aquarium officials expect to make a public fundraising campaign announcement soon. Persons or organizations interested in supporting the campaign can contact Hilton directly at bob.hilton@ymail.com or (727) 418-3306.
