THE PIER AQUARIUM IS CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS
Learn about Fish Tank Maintenance, Help at Special Events
 

St. Petersburg, FL (Sept. 21, 2009) - The Pier Aquarium in downtown St. Petersburg is seeking volunteers to work in various positions at different hours during the day and evening.

Whether you are interested in doing an internship for school or just want to give back to the community, we have a position to suit your needs.

As a small non-profit organization, The Pier Aquarium can offer the opportunity of hands-on experience with aquarium maintenance, fish care, marketing, special events and retail support.

The Pier Aquarium has volunteer positions available in aquarium maintenance, education, fish care, marketing, public relations, special event staffing, administration and museum store support. Hours for volunteering are 9am-9pm Monday-Saturday and 11am-7pm Sunday. Volunteers will attend orientation and receive training from experienced staff members before working at the second floor aquarium.

Volunteers are required to member a member of The Pier Aquarium and commit to a minimum number of hours depending on the department they wish to work in. They receive a T-shirt and name badge, discounts in The Pier Aquarium Museum Store, invitations to special events including our holiday party and opening receptions  and reciprocal free visits at partner museums and aquariums during specific month.Volunteers also receive free parking and discounts at the shops and restaurants at The Pier.

About The Pier Aquarium

The Pier Aquarium, established in 1988, is a private, non-profit aquarium and marine education center located in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida at The Pier. More than 200,000 visitors come to The Pier Aquarium annually.

It occupies four locations: the first and second floors at The Pier have 17 tanks of live fish and other marine life and six educational exhibits. An indoor classroom and administrative offices are on the third floor. Outside, halfway down The Pier approach is Water Walk, an interpretive education display and 1/4 mile away at Spa Beach is the Roy G. Harrell, Jr. Education Station, an outdoor marine laboratory.

The mission of the Pier Aquarium is to enhance the public’s understanding of the value and fragility of the local and global marine environment through research, education, education and personal experiences.
