On the Way to Going Green.2008...a gentle New Year's Eve Activity

More than 2,500 strolled The Pier Aquarium's labyrinth at First Night St. Petersburg 2008 in S Straub Park.

Along the way they read signs, made a promise and brought home brochures and other fun giveaways. It was all in a night's effort to learn about going green and reducing our impact on the planet.

The labyrinth path was lit by luminaries created by pupils at Campbell Park Elementary Marine Science Program, Bay Vista Fundamental Elementary School and Sawgrass Elementary School. Signs on the path and hanging from trees featured recycling facts and tips to become a better informed and ecologically conscious consumer. At the end of the labyrinth, walkers tied ribbons to a tree as a promise to GO GREEN!

Many thanks to the luminary artists, the volunteers who staffed the event and our partner, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, which provided us with pins, tattoos, pencils and other conservation-related items.
