A Sea of Sound
It's Noisy Down There!
A Sea of Sound

You think it’s quiet underwater but listen carefully.  Listen to the ocean chorus – burps, whistles, grunts, clucks and booms – a symphony of strange sounds produced by fishes and humans through our mobile hydrophone exhibit. Ever heard snapping shrimp?

Many fish make sounds to communicate with each other through the dark distances of the ocean. These sounds also alert predators (like dolphin) to their presence.  It’s not always a good idea to trumpet your presence!
